"After the success of my highly acclaimed documentaries ‘In Love with My Allotment - David’s Story’ (2008) and ‘Knitting Club - One Woman’s Passion’ (2009), I now bring you ‘Apocalypse War’, an insight into the strange world of Live Action Role Play, or ‘LARPing’ as those involved call it."

Under the strong leadership of The Earth King, The Earth Keepers seek to expel evil from the world in their quest to defeat The Dark Lord and his mighty army, The Forces of Darkness.

When not waging a war against evil in the guise of The Earth King, Nathan Arnold (22) supervises the deli-counter at a leading supermarket. He lives with his Nan in the Dorset village of Sturminster Newton. Nathan enjoys LARPing, musical theatre and amateur dramatics.

“I’ve always had a vivid imagination and exceptional acting skills. Live action role playing is the perfect outlet for my natural talents, as I think my performance as The Earth King proves. It isn’t easy either. I have to be totally committed to immersing myself into my LARPing character, sometimes for as long as two hours at a time!” Nathan Arnold/The Earth King, 2010.

The Forces of Darkness and their diabolical leader, The Dark Lord, strive to scourge the world of all that is good, pure and beautiful. In their unrelenting quest, only The Earth King and his Earth Keepers stand between them and world domination.

The character of The Dark Lord is the creation of Barry Runton (24). After completing an apprenticeship in butchery, he is now employed by a leading supermarket chain. Barry lives in the Dorset village of Sturminster Marshall with his rottweiler, Damian. In his spare time he enjoys LARPING and pot-holing. “From its original conception at choir practice in 1998, Nathan and I have worked tirelessly to bring about The Apocalypse; recruiting new players, working on our costumes and developing our characters. It is hard to believe that, from such humble beginnings, our vision is on the cusp of being realised. The thing with live action role play is that you have to be 100% dedicated to portraying your character realistically. Sometimes it’s hard to tell where The Dark Lord ends and I begin…Mwa-ha-ha-ha!” Barry Runton/The Dark Lord, 2010.
